Session 3: Intra and Post-Operative Catastrophe Management

Objectives:

Recognize an intra and post operative complication

Implement the first steps of mitigation in the most common intraoperative complications

Appreciate the importance of team work and communication in the operating room

Identify strategies to cope with acute and long-term stress of intraoperative catastrophe

Pre-Course Work:

Deadline: Tuesday, April 2 at 11:00pm ET

Submit all the possible intraoperative complications that course arise from the case below:

45 y/o M s/p MVC arrived in the trauma bay with right 6 mm fixed pupil. Head CT shows right acute SDH with > 1cm of midline shift. Mannitol and hypertonic is given and you take the patient to the operating room for a right sided craniectomy for SDH evacuation. You are taking the patient to the operating room for a emergent right sided craniectomy for SDH evacuation.
