SNS Positional Membership Requirements
Applicants for Society of Neurological Surgeons (SNS) Positional Membership will be performed utilizing a self-nomination process. For the 2024-25 cycle, applicants must be current Program Chairs, Directors, or Associate Program Directors of ACGME residency program hosting departments. Note: for the 2024-25 cycle, only one ADP applicant per instituion is permitted.
Positional Members will have all the duties and privileges of Active Members during their term of membership, except that they may not hold elected positions in the Society (officer, member-at-large, or Nominating Advisory Committee member) and are not permitted to attend or vote at the SNS Annual Business meeting.
Positional Membership Benefits
- Direct access to the SNS Annual Meeting.
- Moving forward, all non-members will need to receive an invitation from an SNS member, program chairs and directors will no longer be provided with an automatic invitation unless they are a positional member.
- Full access to SNS website and educational materials.
- Ability to Chair SNS committees, with the exception of nominating advisory committee.
- Additional consideration during the permanent, active membership nomination process.
Positional and Active Membership Nominations
An applicant may move forward in securing Positional Membership while also participating in the Active Membership nomination process. Positional Membership will be awarded in January each year. SNS dues are processed in February and positional members will receive a dues statement at this time. If the applicant is then approved for active membership in May at the Annual Business meeting, applicant will not need to pay additional dues for the calendar year (positional dues payment will transfer towards active membership).
Application Deadline
The application for positional membership is now open. All parts of the application must be completed by Friday, November 1, 2024, in order to be considered for positional membership.
Application Instructions
To apply a for positional membership, follow the steps below:
- Applicants can initiate a Positional Member application by completing the Positional Membership Application.
- Applicants must log into their SNS account to access application form.
- If the applicant does not have an SNS account, an account can be created by selecting “Create An Account” in the upper right-hand corner of the SNS website.
- Questions? Contact the SNS office at sns@cns.org.
- The following information will be required during the application process: name, credentials, institution, title, contact information, CV, biography, professional headshot. Additionally, applicants must provide confirmation of their position.
- Program Chair: Chairs to provide a letter indicating their status as chair of an AGME residency program hosting department.
- Program Director: Directors provide a letter from their Chair indicating their status with the institution and their active role as the ACGME-designated Residency Program Director.
- Associate Program Director: APDs provide a letter from their Program Director indiciating their status with the institution and their active roles as the an ACGME-designated Associate Program Director.
- Once all documents are uploaded, click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.
- Once approved, Positional Members must re-verify their Chair, Program Director, or Associate Program Director position each year to maintain Positional Membership. Information on how to complete this process will be sent directly to positional members.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the application is complete in time for review by the Membership Committee.
Once completed, the nominee's file will be reviewed by the Membership Committee, followed by presentation to the SNS Executive Council at its December meeting. The SNS Executive Council will approve candidates for initiation of positional membership the following month (January of the next calendar year).
